Bring on 2021 – Grow into the Light

December 28, 2020  by Dr. Suki Munsell

Harvest the Shadow, Grow into the Light

My hand slipped off the wet edge of the hot tub this morning. I tumbled to the ground.

My ribs weren’t happy with me. “Why didn’t you look where you were going?” they admonished me. “It’s important to pay attention, especially in transitions.“

“You OK?” one of the club members asked.

“I will be,” I answered.

I slid into the tub like a wounded puppy, uncurling my spine from its protective crouch. Floating, I took inventory. My torso was slightly twisted. I relaxed, released fear and tension, and stretched gently. My breathing massaged my achy ribs, their muscles and attachments. Extending through my spine, I reclaimed home base.

“Ahhh. I took the twist out.”

This morning’s tumble was my third body-outage in the last four days, following dental surgery and a bout of vertigo previous to that.  The more I could dissolve body, breath, and mind into an image of perfect health, the more quickly my natural healing responded. I still feel like a novice at self-healing and am always grateful when I bounce back resiliently.

The Winter Solstice and seasonal celebrations invite us to open into the growing light and hold a radiant image of ourselves in a healthier world. January is named for Janus, the two-faced Roman god of beginnings and endings, doorways and transitions. Harvest the pain, anxiety, and confusion of this past year to use for personal growth and loving connection to others.
